no, that's not it. It had to do with the way computers stored dates. Storage space was at a premium so to save space the extra bits it took to store the 19 in 1995 (for example) was saved by using only 2 digits for the year (i.e. 02/06/99) but it was feared that when 2000 rolled around, that would cause processing problems on computers around the world.

The "Y2K bug" was about computers not being able to go to the year "2000" without thinking that the year was "1900" instead. It DID cause problems, but because of the awareness of the problem the damage was minimalized. Millions of dollars were spent correcting the problem. Afterwards it seemed like "much ado about nothing", but it could have been a disaster - computers could have launched nuclear missiles if they really went haywire, so we "dodged a bullet" back then.

Well is plain and simple. Computers year recognition was like this,
1997 -1998- 1999 - CRAP WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW ??? Should I put the year in 1900. Computer device could not jump from yar 1999 to 2000 cause it did not reconize it , so the computer devices will suffer serious errors and program bugs.

there was a rumor that since computers only use the last two digits (99 instead of 1999) that they would read two thousand (00) as the year zero. people were worried that this would cause wide scale malfunctions and blackouts with computers and computerized systems. fortunately, toilets aren't computerized, and if yours is, then it's probably just possessed or something. Maybe by demons, or possibly gremlins.

computers were never designed to go over a four digit number which was more than 1000, normally the computers would last approx 4-6 yr then one would be expected to get a new one, when the Y2K came it was feared that all systems would grind to a hault due to the clock not recognizing the last digit (it being there).

exactly. Y2K meant that if everyone was on the internet at the same time... all computers and toilets would crash. you are smart.

say what...it was corporations were worried that their systems wouldnt be able to handle the year 2000...and that they would shut down or erase things..which now looking back was totally stupid..if a computer can count up to 1999, i think its smart enough to know 2000 is next
