YES! all engines leave some sort of carbon build-up in the cylinders. The carbon can actually build up,and when it gets hot enough,it will com-bust spontaneously, causing the "knock" you hear. Also,a low grade of octane fuel may not burn "fast enough" and also cause a knock. You should take you car in to have in professionally cleaned (fuel injection).I do not believe there is a after market fuel injection cleaner that will do the job of a proffesional. You CAN use the A.M. cleaners everyother tank,to maintain a clean cylinder.Fuel injection cleaning should especially be done on cars that HAVE to use 92 octane. They build up carbon MUCH faster and can cause great loss of power.

IF YOUR CAR IS "PINGING" UNDER ACCELERATION IT MAY BE U NEED A HIGHER OCTANE FUEL
MANY FUEL INJECTOR CLEANERS HAVE AN OCTANE BOOSTING ADDATIVE
HMMM WONDER WHY.
WHEN U BUY AND USE THEIR PRODUCT THE PINGING IS GONE AND THE CAR RUNS BETTER
WHEN THE PRODUCT IS USED UP THE PINGING COMES BACK
BUY MORE PRODUCT.... WHAT A CONCEPT
HOPEFULLY IT IS A PING AND NOT A KNOCK
THERE IS ALSO A DETONATION OR KNOCK SENSER ON MANY LATER MODEL CARS USED TO SENSE THAT PING SO IT CAN SIGNAL A TIMING CHANGE IS NEEDED
THE ON BOARD COMPUTER WILL TAKE THAT INFORMATION AND ADJUST THE TIMING AS NEEDED
IF THIS KNOCK SENSOR IS NOT DOING ITS JOB, OF COURSE THE TIMING WONT ADVANCE AND THE ENGINE WILL KNOCK
NOT ALWAYS DOES A LITTLE KNOCK MEAN AN ENGINE OVERHAUL
LOOK INTO IT GOOD LUCK

If you detect knocking you may have a lot bigger problem than just dirty fuel injectors. It's a good cheap thing to start fixing though. You will want to take the car to a mechanic to see about the knocking. NEVER buy a car without having a mechanic look at it BEFORE you buy it. If the owner won't let you then don't buy the car.

slight knocking may be due to contaminated fuel or low fuel octane. You can fill up with better fuel a few more times to clean out your tank of the bad fuel and see if it goes away. Fuel injector cleaner will help if the fuel has too much water in it because it is supposed to absorb water. Octane booster may help a little if it is too low of an octane.

Fuel injection cleaning probably would not help a knock. You may have carbon build up. etc. Try a tank of higher grade of gas and see if you can notice a difference.

Without more information it could be your timing. If it is and older designed engine with a distributer and a billion miles it could eaisly be that your timing is off, that could easily cause the detonation or "knocking" that you are hearing. If it is a newer design without a distributor then it will be some sensor acting up. but either way it is going to be somthing that effects your timing.

fuel injection cleaner is the least of your worries, your car is knocking you may have a bent rod or in a short time it will throw one

Fuel injectors don't knock, rods knock.
