That's so sad. Just remember this, Charity is the pure love of Christ. If you use that as a guide you'll not go wrong. There was a nurse that would go out of her way when someone was in need. Her son asked her why she always did that. Her statement to her son was.."There but for the grace of God go I."

Truthfully Amy's parents should be taking care of her; That is a big responsibility for you to feel the need to take care of her financially! If you are a true friend, sharing some of your own things I think would be more appropriate! I have always been a big believer that if you want to keep a friend dont lend them money! She will probley end up depending on you for the things she needs and truthfully that couldn't end up benifitting your friendship! If it's clothes she needs, get other friends together to gather up her size in clothes& shoes ect. Have a bakesale to raise money for personal items! A car wash! Some type of fundraiser to get extra cash other than dipping into your own pocket! This will let her know as a friend you are willing to help her out without actually giving up your hard earned money!

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Seems to me like you have your life together. Use your talents to show Amy what she needs to do in order to earn her own money. If you're a real friend, you'll take the time to educate her NOT give her money - unless of course she needs it for food, health care, shelter or some other necessity.

If Amy wants your help, then you can make purchases for her. I would not give her money. Pay some of her rent, it will motivate her to finish paying, and it will be easier for her. Buy her a meal or a bag of beans and a loaf of bread. She will have to plan a menu and cook for her self. She will not be able to trade this for ciggz or booze. It is to tempting for Amy to spend it on other wants instead of critical needs. Please do not expect to be paid back. It will put a lot of strain on your friendship. You might want to go with her to the agencies that can provide training and assistance. Helping is not the same as facilitating. You want you help her to decide to change instead of paying for her to stay in this rut.
I hope this helps.
