After loosing your mucus plug and being dialated 2-3 cm. How long does it usually take for labor to actually begin?? I know it varies, but how long does it USUALLY take?? And also is 37 weeks far enough along to deliver?

This happened last night when I lost the plug they sent me home from hospital because I was not contracting enough. Today I am cramping and my back is starting to hurt.

Sounds like early stages of labor to me. 37 weeks should be fine. I did this recently, and this is what happened: At 10-11pm on a Wed. night, I started cramping a little and feeling tightening of belly. I was only 36wks, so I thought it was braxton hicks, and went to bed. I woke several times in the night because the cramping was getting worse (like severe menstrual cramps). I awoke at 7am feeling horrible. Went to bathroom and noticed bloody mucous. So I went to hosp. and sure enough, I was in real labor. So they kept me, and the pain didnt become unbearable until about 2pm, I suffered through it, and wound up having a c-section at 9pm Thur. night. So alltogether I was actually in labor for 24 hrs. You should be having a baby real soon. Good luck .....shouldn't take long once you lost your mucous plug. Some go for days after, but most commonly its only hours, or one day. Congrats!!!

While 37 weeks is far enough along to have a normal and healthy baby, most doctors will not induce or schedule a c-section until you hit 38 weeks.
What you are having now sounds like early labor. It can go on for up to a couple of weeks but if it gets bad enough or you are not progressing fast enough, the doctor may go ahead and put in the hospital by this time next week and induce you to help you along.

sounds like it is gonna be any day now. Yes 37 wks is fine to deliver. I had my son @ 37 wks and I mean I just hit 37 wks and he was HEALTHY and weighed 7 1/2 pds. So yea sounds like that cramping is the start to your labor. Goodluck and CONGRATS. If the cramps come more stronger and frequent then you need to go back to the hospital or dr.

37 weeks is term and ready to go! A lot of women get stuck at 2-3 cm for several weeks and the loss of the mucous plug doesn't mean anything. For me, I stayed at 2 cm for 4 weeks with my first before I was induced, with my second, I was at 1-2 cm a couple of days before my water broke.
Good luck!

Well sound like you are in labor now. Yes, 37 weeks is far enough. Anytime after 36 weeks you are OK. Just relax and get some rest you will need it.

37 weeks is far enough. That is a full term pregnancy. And if you are 2-3cm dialated, you are kinda in labor now.

Its starting; the back pain and "cramping" are actually light labor pains. You should get yourself prepared - it could be anywhere from the next 1-4 days, but please don't freak if it takes just a bit longer OR if you end up going into full labor in the next hour! Each woman is different, and each case is unique. Good luck!

I don't really know a good estimate for question # 1, but yes 37 weeks is long enough for a safe delivery.
