You have to be the right person for the lead... No matter what I do, I will never be right for the lead, if the lead character happens to be a sixteen year old girl... or a fat old man... or a six foot three inch black basketball player... or a chinese acrobat.

If you are new to the acting group it is unlikely you will get the main role. Hang in there, you time will come.
In the meantime, ask your acting teacher to privately coach you, it will help you.

Forget the others auditioning and have confidence in yourself. Be strong and aggressive. Ask the director what exactly he wants you to do or be before you audition. Tell him, you want the role and will give it your all, after the audition, and thank him for his time and consideration. Good luck!

Get more experience under your belt. Most casting directors won't cast you as the lead,regardless of your talent,if you have no experience.
