i've found a few places online that have extras for film and tv in the uk (i'm looking at mostly england but travaling's fine if it'll be something realy good) but i was wondering if anyone knew how you would go about specialising in being a film extra that only plays creatures like Brian Steele, who played samiel in hellboy was in doom and underworld and the crvinus werewolf in underworld evolution. obviousely not such prominent roles as this but in the backgrounds. i just haven't got the faintest idea where you would start to become a creature extra? is there even any special agencies or would you just signe up to be an extra and have to go to normal roles as well?

Hi there,
I'm not from the UK so I can't give you any specifics, just some general advice. First of all, if you have a film commison or bureau in your city/area, you may be able to get a list of what's filming in that area to figure out if they are filming any creature features. Your local actor's union office should be able to give you a list of talent agencies that take on people to work as extras. If not, check the business section of your phone book.
If you have any film industry trades (magazines and other publication specific to the film industry) you can find out what is shooting when and, in general terms, where. They won't often tell you the specific neightborhood to avoid stalkers and sightseers.
I work as an extra in Canada. There are no specific background (as extra's are known here) agencies that deal only in "creature" roles.
I have friends who have been zombies and creature warriors on films. They didn't have much fun doing it. The creature costumes were clastraphobic, hot and they were not allowed to take them off during lunch. Nor were they allowed to have as many bathroom breaks as they should have had in a 12 hour day. One young woman I know passed out on set becasue the her costume cut off her oxygen supply. The paramedics on that set were too busy to help her because they were helping another girl who was having a serious ashma attack because of the creature mask she was required to wear. Other extras have had reactions to the face makeup and latex applied to thier bodies that have made them unable to accept work for weeks because of the unsightly skin inflamation.
Okay, enough horror stories. :)
If you'd like some photos of yourself in monster makeup, check out your city for theatre programs and makeup schools. The students may be taking monster or special effects makeup courses and will need models. Just be aware of the products they are using on your face. Poor students sometimes try to do silly things to save money. And, since you are in England, you will know that it's cold at this time of year. Think twice before you accept any jobs that will have you outside at night for 8 or more hours!! You'll freeze!!
Hope this is helpful and good luck.

As an 'extra' or 'walk-on' you don't get an awful lot to do and as for jobs, you don't have to do things you don't fancy.
It's not likely that there will be a lot of this sort of theme in future but who knows what might come up.
You can join an agency and some require a fee.
This is not wrong or illegal but you might locate one that only requires a photo, CV and measurement chart.
Background acting requires little skill and virtually anybody can do it.
Would it not be better to get involved at a higher level then use your training to create the sort of work you want?
Once I'd got a few years under my belt I started my own company and now I do what I want as often as I want and pay the bills from it.

There is an extras casting place in the UK that specifically looks for non-Hollywood looking types (not necessarily to play creatures, but it's on the right track), called uglies.com. In the US there is something called Beinamovie.com. You might also try Mandy.com. A lot of independet film makers are into horror and sci fi, so there should be plenty of opportunities out there in idependent film.

No... you really can't expect to get serious answers to your questions here on "YouWho Answers 'n Stuff"
I'm just thankfull that you didn't ask "How do I get to be a Disney Actor and work with miley cyrus?" As if there are two kinds of actors... Disney actors, and just plain old regular actors.
Agents are not broken down into specialty agents either.... as in Agents who represent Actors, and Agents who represent only freaks...
You need to develop your craft... find an agent who can and will represent you... and accept the calls you get.

i'm a action picture pupil and that i understand some human beings in there and stuff. i think of the final thank you to do it extremely is in simple terms understand the superb human beings extremely. i'm constructive, because of the fact the different solutions have mentioned, there are companies that try this. I doubt you will need an agent.

Send your headshot/resume to the casting directors in the UK and tell them you want to be an Extra as a "creature." You can also ask them if they have "open calls" for Creature Extras.

some times you have to go to a theater group that sometimes works or you get yourself an agent who will then hopefully get you in or look for auditions for film/TV that could work good luck
