I am in a marriage that has been plagued by both verbal and physical abusive. (more verbal than physical) I feel like I am dying inside and need to get out of my marriage. The problem is I have been a stay at home mother for the past 13 years to 4 wonderful children, and live in fear of the threats that he makes in regards to him taking my children from me. ( I do not drink or do drugs) His parents have money and mine dont, and I had one attorney tell me that money talks in child custody. I have called many victims help lines and really dont get anywhere. I have no money and need to get a attorney, I have called and talked to several attorneys and they all want very high retainers.... What do I do.....

I'm sorry I wish I could help you with an attorney, I'm almost in the same boat. But understand that he's only threatening you because he would have to pay alimony AND child support. In most states its a percentage of his income, and no offense if he's been supporting you and 4 children it would come up to be a hefty sum of money that he would have to pay you. Most of the times mothers retain custody of their children, unless the mother is found unfit, which your not!!! Keep as much documention as you can in regards to his behavior, police reports, neighbors viewing the abuse. All this will be help in court to prove who the unfit parent is. Keep looking for the right lawyer for you, it will end up costing money either way, but you need to get out of that relationship, not only for you but for your kids too!

Good luck, Your not alone!
