hi, when accessing some sites like www.yahoo.com, then looking into your DNS cache you find more than one entry... what are those? why?
try this on WINXP:
open a new command window
ipconfig/flushdns
go to ie and open www. yahoo.com
back to the command window and type:
ipconfig/displaydns

what is all that????????????????

because sites as large as Yahoo depend on more than one server across the globe... Each server has it's own IP address. To get to Yahoo, you may have to go through several servers before actually getting to the site. When one goes down, traffic is redirected to another server. You're never using the same IP address each time anyhow. You can download any good trace route program that would illustrate my answer. It shows the path of information from where you are, to the end server.

Yahoo has many different servers and therefore many different IP addresses. Pictures, ads, etc. all come from different servers.

its usually a bunch of script that runs with the main domain such as php...it has to reach all these databases and pull of information news and etc. etc. to build the mian yahoo site that you really see...
