This happend to me yesterday. If the comp froze up on the net and you had to turn the switch off, you will have to go in internet options under control panel click connections and choose your dial up or make a shortcut from msn or press reconnect. I hope this helps.

If you are setting up your home network for the first time, refer to Set up a wired network or Set up a wireless network. The guidance in this article assumes that you were previously able to use your network: Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connections.Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Network Connections. In the Network Connections window, examine the status of your network adapter:Your computer is properly connected to your modem, router, or wireless network, but there is a problem between your router and the Internet. Read Windows XP says your network adapter is connected.
Good luck

You most likely want to turn your computer off
Then you want to make sure everything is to the router is not plugged in.
When the computer restarts then wait a few minutes for the computer's hard drive to read after the green light is done.
You should plug the cables back in and check if it works
You may want to then check your connection settings to
To do this
Go o Start
left click
Settings
Network connections
check if your local area network is connected
if not, then double click on it to let Windows try and reconnect the connection.
If, this doesn't work then, call the router company for tech support.

Right click on that internet connection (usually on the bottom of your desktop) and select "repair" and it should unconnect and reconnect your internet connection. I have wireless and this happens to me a lot! This always solves my problem. My computer doesn't see the connection but it's there. Try that, I hope it helps you. If not, another option is to get into your local connection and make sure your default is set on your home connection and not a neighbors or something like that.
Hope I helped!! =)

Go to tools , internet options, connections, then theres a button near the bottom that says LAN settings click it, there should be 2 boxes, one says automatic config. and the other says proxy server. In the automatic config click the first check box and also the first check box under proxy server. thatshould fix it.

Don't get irritated what the computer says even if everything is perfectly fine. Softwares have that kind of a clitch sometimes. You should not think so much about it.
Let it say what it wants, just see if you can do your work as desired.
WHO CARES WHAT IT SAYS??????

first check to see if you have a link light on the nic. then check to see if the device is working properly in device manager. if there are no conflicts, then replace the cable if no link light. still no success? purchase new NIC.
