Everyone is dressing and talking like a pirate. They even had a pirate family on a wife swap show. Suddenly Johnny Depp is an acting genius because he ripped off Keith Richards. How is this any different from people who dress as Star Wars characters. What makes pirates cooler?

If it is such BS then why has Johnnyboy not been this popular all the time. He is a fringe actor at best with roles that are sporadic. Edward Scissorhands reqiured very little performance from Depp. He at least he did not have to talk, just some sad and bewildered facial expressions. All he has right now are the Pirates movies and that is over next summer. Secret Window was horrible. The fact is he cannot carry a movie on his own.

Pop culture is often weird. Remember these are fads, and will pass. As soon as some big hit movie is about robot toys or something like that you will see all kinds of people that want robot toys or whatever it is that is popular at the moment. I personally don't give a damn about pirates, unless I am on a boat.

"Suddenly Johnny Depp is an acting genius".. Pity you mentioned such BS (watch Edward Scissorhands to notice he was genial 12 years ago already), or I would've joined in with your mutinous rant. Pirates aren't cooler than Star Wars nuts, but the same goes for any rip-off costume. I am glad frills are back in fashion though, let's hope it's not just another hype.

HEY!!!! Don't trash talk Johnny Depp. He's just playing the part and because he's so AWESOME, everyone is going GA-GA. Pirates of the Ca... was a great movie and the 3rd will be great too, all of his movies are wonderful. Sooo, what I'm saying is pirates are popular right now because of Johnny Depp's status.

pirate stuff. I mean really, what is so cool about
a peg legged guy with a patch over one eye?
You never saw Willie Nelson acting like a pirate.
And George Bush or Al Gore would never be cast
into the role of a pirate... Never happen.
Let's go back to hating the "Outlaws" and the guys
who dressed in "Black." I would much prefer my
heros to come from "Tales from the Crypt."

"The Pirate" was the sixth member of the Village People. He was much akin to the 5th Beatle. He lived life as a recluse, totally off the grid. However, for the people in the know, he was the real secret behind the Village People's sound.
I don't know who this Johnny Depp guy is. What is your fixation with him?

johnny depp takes roles that know one else does and turns them into blockbusters! i don't know where you are coming from but i think that ha is a very good actor. if it hadn't been for johnny depp pirates of the caribbean would have never been as successful as it has been

No I completely agree with you, man. I work in a bookstore and you should see how many books are coming out, for kids AND adults! It was because that damn movie, which wasn't even that great.
