Last night I lost my mucus plug and was sent to the er. They put me on the monitor and the babys heart beat kept going all the way to almost 180 and then back to where its suppost to be.. They sent sent me home because I was not having enough contractions...What causes the babys heart rate to go so high.. Does it have anything to do with labor?

I think accelerations up to 180 are normal for a baby...he or she's probably moving around. Okay as long as it doesn't stay that high. Between 140 and 160 is good, right?

Losing the mucus plug is not the onset of labor, you didn't need to go to ER for it. Baby's heart beat shouldn't have anything to do with labor either. Probably because you are so stressed up, and the baby can sense it. Also, depends on how soon after you eat too. Your food gives your baby an energy boost as well.

It is perfectly normal for the baby's heart rate to get that high. I was in the hospital this past weekend for stomach cramps which noone could diagnose and the heart rate stayed somewhere between 160 and 185. And that was only when they could get her to sit still for five minutes. The heart rate lowers and raises because of fetal movement. It's not serious and if it had been, the nurse would have said something about it to you or the doctor and you probably wouldn't have been released. Congratulations, though. Loss of the plug means you are almost there!!!

When I was in labor I asked the nurse why the baby heart rate fluctuates. She said that is normal it is part of labor. So, don't worry. Good luck!!!
