Some guy asked about two cartoons from his childhood, and he chose the best answer himself... but it was wrong! Argh! The second cartoon was Jayce and the Wheeled Warrirors, not Ulysses 31! The organic cars were from Jayce!

Yes, this is a big problem, not only on Yahoo! Answers, but on many websites where fact is determined by consensus, not by solid research.
For example, look at Wikipedia, and the recent discussion attached to the idea of "truthiness".

Goodness.
Why do some people give the wrong answers and lead the gullible down a primrose path?
It's our duty to answer a question truthfully and give reliable information. If someone chooses the wrong answer it simply means that they are trusting souls.

I dunno
not all questions require factual answeres though
i like asking philosophical qeustions and look for people oppinions
people if you are going to try and gleen info off answeres at least go to google first!!! thats the problem, are you too lazy to research the answer yourself? you know what info is relevant more than we do!
*apoligises for what turned out to be a very generalised rant*

The paradox of a question... the person who asked doesn't know the answer. I usually tack on some reference to help them choose, even when I know the answer cold. I'll also give a thumbs down to blatantly wrong answers or the "thanks for 2 points" answers.

I do sometimes wonder if people ask and answer their own questions with different accounts just to wind everyone else up!
It seems to be the only logical, if somewhat sad, explanation

It is sooo annoying when that happens, I've taken to adding 'by the way... so and so was wrong about whatever' to my answers, otherwise people might go round believing these things. Is that mean?

I know...I saw that happen the other day...someone wanted to know the season premiere of Lost and I told them exactly what was in tv guide...told them it came from tv guide and they picked someone who said it starts on 9/27.
Guess they pick what they want to believe and not what is fact.

the answer resolution system seems to be quite fallible. This could be the downfall of the site if they don't come up with a more reliable system.
