People do not realise that bottled water in UK is more expensive than petrol. It is the biggest con. trick in history as it is proven year after year that Thames Water from the tap, if left to stand for no more than ten seconds is purer that the vast number of bottled waters. You must have heard the old one: If the water in the bottle has been filtering through volcanoes for millions of years, why is there a 'sell by' date on the label. Also, next time, have a look at the list of contents of a bottle of water. I was lucky, as way back in about 1979, when returning to UK from Ireland I bought some food for traveling including a bottle of water. I left them on the kitchen table where my old mom saw them. She asked 'Is that some new sort of lemonade'. I said 'No mom, just water'. 'Just plain water' she asked. 'Yes mom' I replied. 'Mother of God' she exclaimed 'he's paying 69 pence for a bottle of water now'. That was the last time I ever bought water in a bottle. I must have saved thousands of pounds over the years...........

I drink a LOT of water, but I'm very picky about the taste. I don't like the expensive waters, I get the cheap stuff, but it has to be consistent so I will drink it. Bottom line is, if it doesn't taste right, I won't drink it at all, no matter how good it is for me.
Besides, not all areas in the world have good tap water.

If you are in a place where pure drinking water is not available, and there are many such places, then you do need bottled water. I wouldn't call it a marketing rip off.

Well you could always get on yer bike and drink from the loch. But if the water from the taps is no good and mineral water doesn't spring from your toilet bowl, bottled water is worth a few quid.

It's a RIP OFF! What's wrong with drinking fountain water? Or tap water (as long as you filter it)?

its a convenience to have it in a bottle with a top... i don't have a big problem with buying a bottle of water for a dollar. if you do them maybe you should try getting a job in a water bottle factory and maybe you will get a discount.
