Do'nt my pc have a modem already--That's how i connect using dail up?

Your modem is different from the DSL modem. You need to install the entire package that Yahoo! DSL will send you. It's very easy, so don't worry too much.

You're right in saying your computer has a modem... But this modem you're currently using is a voice/data modem (use for dial up) and does not know how to convert dsl digital signals. That's why SBC is sending you a DSL modem (free of charge) to use with their service.

Note: There are seperate modems for DSL (called DSL modems), Cable, and Dial-Up.

The kit that SBC will provide you is a step-by-step manual on how to connect your computer to the internet using their service (DSL). Usually, a technician comes down to your location, program something in the back of your house, like install a chip that will receive digital signal, so when you setup your connection, you'll be able to connect to your ISP (SBC).

Don't stress to much about it. This Do-It-Yourself kit is relatively easy to setup. And SBC has pretty good customer service if you need assistance.

your modem is for phone dialup
SBC sends you a dsl modem, it converts your phone line to take dsl. Yes, you need the modem. Also be sure your computer has an ethernet card. If not, you need to buy one and install it, or ask someone to do it for you.
