In short, no. I don't know where the Romans got their idea for numerals. It is interesting to note that the Romans had no zero. It is believed that the Indians first used zero, which was then picked up by Arabs and later spread to Europe.

I didn't know that any nation used roman numerals these days. The numbers we use today are not roman. Do some research.
