YES. If it was off of the books you can't use it on your resume.

No it is great to have on your resume that you've been at one job for a long time. It says that you're dedicated to your place of employment. WHen a new job asks, why you left this one...just tell them, there was no room for growth. Do not say anything negative about your old job. That looks bad. Sure go ahead branch out.

You mean cash-in-hand? You might have problems cos your present employers won't want to admit to fraud,so you can kiss references goodbye. I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing when you say "off the books."

if your previous employer was not paying your payroll taxes then you can bet that they wont be claiming you ever worked there.

however, if you were 1099 as an independent contractor then they will claim you did

be more clear about off the books
