I'm 8 weeks pregnant with twins. We found out there were two babies after an early u/s 2 weeks ago after I had some light spotting. One baby was a little smaller than the other but the dr said prob nothing to worry about. I went for another u/s yesterday and baby b has not grown hardly any while baby a is right on schedule. Both babies have very strong steady heartbeats and they said that other than the size difference everything looks ok. The dr had an emergency and had to run out before we could ask questions. I go back in 2 weeks but does anyone have any advice or suggestions of what could be wrong??? I'd appreciate any answers that could help!!! Thanks!!

i think you should do what the doc says and dont worry. if you stress too much it could be harmful to the baby. so relax. the doc says it should be fine so just chill . drink some tea.

While I'm not saying this is what is going on, you should ask your doctor about TTTS (Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome). It's a very serious condition only affecting identical twins who share a placenta, but what happens is the twins end up sharing the blood supply unequally... one gets too much of the blood/nourishment from the placenta and the other gets too little... a condition that can be very, very harmful to both babies. This happened with my twins but luckily it didn't begin to develop until later in the pregnancy and, while they were born almost 10 weeks early amid complications, both they and I have made a complete recovery and they are now just two normal, happy healthy toddlers. Also, even though it is more dangerous the earlier it shows up, there are treatments available.

Please press your doctor about this... my TTTS went undiagnosed and one of my babies almost died from it... and the earlier you catch it, the better. I'm not saying that is what's going on, but it's a possibility with what you've described. If your doctor brushes you off, go to another doctor... there are so many in the medical community that aren't even that aware of the condition, even though TTTS takes twice as many babies as SIDS. Good Luck!!

It is very early yet. They didnt figure out I was having twinns till 2 weeks before they were born. They were a pound different. The one farther down in the uterus is usually smaller, may be a nutrition thing, but there certainly is plenty of room at the moment. As long as the heart beats are steady and strong, dont worry. My twins are 35 now and I am a Grandma.

Hi i had twins too and my twin a was smaller than twin b. Twin b was taking all the food so it probably nothing to worry about, but if you are just ask doc when you go back. My twin a was 4lb 7oz and twin b was 6lb 4oz, alot of difference in size and now they are 2 years old and twin a is nearlly as big as b.
good luck and enjoy

Its pretty normal for one twin to be smaller than the other. he should catch up.

You can actually call you OB's office after the fact and ask for someone to check your chart and give you information about what it all means. They have an on call service 24/7 for just such questions, and a doctor or nurse has to call you back and answer anything you have.

make good use of that phone line, you're paying for it whether you use it or not. :)

They are both different babies...although they are twins...they won't be alike...the smaller one...may just be slower at getting the size up there..but it will come..just relax and enjoy the pregnancy...like I've told my other mothers I talk to...it's easier to keep an eye on them now...then when they are out...GOOD luck..

it could just be there is not enough room for both to be the same size but since the heart beat is strong i think it's ok. once they're born it'll catch up.
