If you mail supports - return receipt - check and enable the same. Then you will get an alert informing you that the mail was delivered

After you sent the message, you will receive a message that your message has been sent. you can check the same by clicking sent mail options. If your message has not been sent you will receive a mail of failure notice

See if you have an option as Flag.
That is an option which tells you that if the opposite person has read your e-mail.

u have to create the 'sent' folder inthe mail account. copies of all sent mails will go to that folder.
