I have Italian heritage, but I do know a story about the trip from Italy. This Italian man enter the ship with the last name of Chickalioni. Before leaving the ship, his family name was forever changed when someone in charge told him his name was too long and from now on he would Chicklo so in the United States of America he became Mr. Chicklo. All of his descendants became Chicklo forever losing his real family name. Sort of sad, isn't it?

I think there was a lot of discrimination in the beginning - according to my grandparents.
