I read the other day that kids in a nursery can no longer sing Ba Ba black sheep, but have to sing Ba Ba Rainbow sleep, I thought it was a joke but apparently not - when are we going to stand up and say enough is enough. How the hell can anyone be offended by Ba Ba Black sheep.

It has certainly gone over the top in Britain, I don't know what it is like in other countries. Here are some from what I heard:
You know the baa baa blackk sheep one.
St Georges Day was once a public holiday in England but they scrapped because it might offend the Irish, Welsh and Scots.

Hot Cross buns are to banned because it might offend Muslims.

A man had the St George flag on his house during the World Cup, but was asked to take it down because it will offend other nationals.

What happened to Irish jokes?

I could a few more, but you get the Idea. If people are offended by this well I've got two words for you F**k Off

I read about this in a paper a couple of years back, yes the PC brigade feel the need to corrupt the minds of our younger generation too, and its actually teachers who are the worst perpetrators of Political Correctness, all I can say is I'm bloo,dy glad I grew up when I did and not now! It would appear that no-one has the balls to say enough is enough to all of this PC nonsense, it's going to engulf our country eventually and you won't be able to sneeze without someone trying to say you just violated something or other. What is a rainbow sheep anyway, are they trying to say that kids should try LSD or something? That film about the people taking over Britain and crushing the Government, its starting to make sense!

Ok, you live in Oxfordshire England? This was a policy at one nursery school there.

In the US, political correctness was more of an issue during Democrat times. It can be revived by Republicans now as a way to frighten voters.

This is really your question: "OMG, if my children have to sing about rainbow sheep, what will the world come to?"

I'll tell you what an American can do, I don't know what a Brit or Aussie can do to stop this horrible trend.

In the US, you can vote Republican on the improbable notion that this will spare your tots the horrors of learning a certain lyric, and when they are 18, they can be drafted and sent to fight a new generation of Muslim terrorists.

-------

Mookie: you overreact with invective and insults. Perhaps you are uninformed, Many military experts say a draft will have to be reinstituted. The volunteer military is already strained to the limit, and the US is likely to strain it further. Bush has said he has no intention of gettng out of Iraq while he is in office. He beat his tom-toms against Iran and Syria just yesterday. Who will he send to war? Why will there be war years from now if Republicans remain the dominant party? Because the Republican Party now stands for military action against enemies -- it's basically the first solution to conflicts. Only wimps like Democrats use diplomacy, right?

Political correctness is a wedge issue, and something of a code for people who are slightly racist. In other words, the Republican party paints Dems as overly concerned with minor slights that blacks may feel -- and thus it slurs Dems as being absurdly anti-racist. Therefore, vote Republican. That is the message, and it's another big, manipulative lie woven out of incidents such as a charity run pre-school in England!

Ba Ba Green Sheep

I think it is a case of looking for problems that do not exist after all, the black sheep in the song is a prized possession.

I'm confused by the application of 'pc' with this submission. If you mean 'personal computer', it has no bearing on the nursery rhyme. But, changing the lyrics to 'rainbow' sheep is a bit much.
Go into just about any pasture where there are sheep, and you WILL see black sheep there, but that doens't mean they are that color due to race. That is carrying 'politically correct' to a new level of stupidity.

I've heard of this before, i don't see how it can be offensive to anyone, it's like having to say happy holidays or seasons greetings instead of merry Christmas. I'm not religious, but Christmas is Christmas and Easter is Easter, they are celebrated because kids want toys and chocolate, not because they believe jesus was born that day and then given life again at Easter. I hate political correctness, that's not to say i believe in being offensive to different races, religions or whatever, but if no offence is meant what does it matter whats said? I don't wish to offend anyone but i still say I'm getting a chinky, because I'm talking about food not a person, if chinky (in reference to food) is offensive, is chippy?

There is nothing wrong with the song the problem is that some people who sing it take it literaly and end up being convienced that black people are worse than black sheep.

Hang on a second - this was a Tory smear against the Greater London Council (when it still existed) back in the 80s wasn't it ? And it turned out to be a fib.
