There are some good answers here already. Upper Haight is the mecca for underground-ish shopping (La Rosa, Buffalo Exchange, etc.) One place that no one else has mentioned is Wasteland, right in the middle of upper Haight. They are a selective vintage clothing place that leans toward the trendy side. You might want to check them out too.

Cross over the bay bridge and go to the city of Berkeley. On Telegraph St, there are a lot of vintage clothes stores.

Try the Buffalo Exchange in the Haight/Ashbury district. If you can, get to Berkley - they have great vintage shops.

I agree you're in all probability questioning of Golden Gate Park and Stowe Lake. even though it is likewise achieveable your reminiscence could be of Mountain Lake Park, located interior the Richmond district and interior sight to Golden Gate Park and the Presidio of San Francisco (now component to the Golden Gate sport section). it extremely is quiet, borders on a residential section it is somewhat upscale interior the section today adjoining to the park. some blocks south is the section now ordinary unofficially as 'Chinatown West', there are various sturdy small eating places there on Clement highway.
