The UN has done so much good for humanity. World leaders working together for peace. There are so many examples. The UN presently has internatinal "peacekeepers", not it's own army.

WOULD YOU SUPPORT THE U.N. WITH IT'S OWN STANDING ARMY?

I believe in a strong UN. A strong UN, with a strong leader. A United Nations Army with about 5 million men....would save American lives. Would deal with international threats, and rogue nations. THEN WE WILL HAVE PEACE.

I believe a powerful UN is our best chance for peace. What do you think?

A powerful UN could easily enforce sanctions! Give the UN some REAL power, and see all the good it can do!

Yes as long as they do away with the Security Council. What a joke that is, 5 standing members that veto each others votes! Get rid of the security council and make it a stronger UN and it could be fine.

I think you are dreaming. I like the john lennon song 'Imagine' also, but Utopia does not exist.

Where would these 5 million men come from? From 'neutral country', where they have no ties to another nation?

What has the UN accomplished in the last 10 years, other than voting on 'sanctions' which they don't enforce?

Has the UN ever launched a military campaign that did not end in a disaster?

Do you not realize that most of the countries in the UN vote based on their own interest, and not that of the world? Look at how Russia and China voted regarding Iraq. Are you not aware that they both had oil contracts with Iraq, therefore they voted against enforcing 13 years of failed sanctions?

Stop living in la la land, wake up to how the real world works. There are bad people in this world, and if we don't stop them, they will do bad things.

I agree with the idea that the security council needs change, and that the UN overall needs more muscle. However, an army such as the one you speak of, while better for the world overall in the long term, is not right for our national interests and would make us more vulnerable than before.

The UN represents the will of nations. It is not necessary for it to have other than its own peacekeepers who volunteer to do peacekeeping.

Nations can have their armies. The most pressing need for UN is that the USA actually acknowledges the need for the UN, and starts actively participating.

I wouldn't give the UN 5 million plastic army men let alone Americans. The UN as it stands today is corrupt to the very core and I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw the UN building. Sorry, I can't go along on this one.

Now there's a living nightmare!

"World leaders working together for peace."??? If this were remotely true why then would there be a need for a gigantic army of five million troops?

Oh, and don't forget, it would need to be a "Five million PERSON standing Army". Can't be leaving out the sweeties now, can we?

There are many more people outside of the US who do want to see this happen. I think it is the direction the world as a whole is going.

I believe one day there will be such a thing, but peace would come at a huge price, costing us liberty.
