I must say first that I AM a big fan of Dylan. What puzzles me is how some of his lyrics I find to be brilliant works of poetry, while in some songs his lyrics are stupid, shallow and cheap choices of rhyming words. Is anyone else confused by this?
BTW- I saw him in concert last year and he still kicks @$$!

Yeah, I saw him with Phil Lesh at the Gorge, awesome show. Had some good shrooms, and some good tunes. I am confused sometimes too, because are they really shallow and cheap choices, or whether they are just so complex and brilliant, and just sound simple? He uses so many metaphors in his work, "you don't have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows", sounds like a simple line, but then you dissect it, and you look at it's guts, and it's not so simple any more. Ya know?

well, not even dylan always excretes from the genius gland. so, brilliant but occasionally lazy and uninspired. even bach wrote some uncool stuff, so give old zimmie a break, will ya? ;-) also, i have some suspicion that some of his seemingly crappy lyrics actually begin to make sense once you put them into the biographcal context and let them grow a bit. that said, i still wouldn't want father of night played at any important occasion. ;-) saw the great man in 2004, he rocked a fair bit!

Not brain damaged. I think he has a skill for writing lyrics that seem to mean more than they actually do. He's induced people into reading their own meanings into his words, so he gets credit for something that isn't there.
