I bought a name brand mattress about 8 months ago from LS Ayres and I'm finding that it sags a little bit. When I look at the foot of the bed I can see that it is not even across the top and dips in the middle. The bed is on a flat wood platform frame (instead of box springs).

Additionally, the actual mattress is 18 inches thick including a very thick pillowtop.

Should I be concerned with taking this mattress back? I know I have a warranty, but is this normal or am I freaking out about something small?

Trade it in and make sure that you have a warranty. If they give you trouble tell them that you will contact the better business bureau.

Even if you have a pillow top, most better ones have pillow on both sides [as mine does]. you should both flip and rotate to expose a different surface and end of the mattress. An old tip I read is to use a laundry marker and write a "1" facing up at the foot of the mattress. Then, each time you flip write a "2", "3", and "4". After completing the cycle start again at "1". You'll always know which way to flip and turn the mattress. In my community, Ayres just became Macy's. Perhaps if you have defective merchandise, Macy's will honor the warranty. Maybe the manufacturer will, if not Macy's. In any event, good luck!

I did alot of research on mattresses before I bought my bed 6 years ago but I've never heard of Ayres brand. If you sleep on it every night and flip it when you change sheets, mattresses will last only as long as guarantee time... no more. They begin to sag in the center and putting some plywood under it doesn't make it comfortable. I've had a 1 year mattress and it killed my back. Now, I've got a 20 year bed with pillowtop on both sides and its fabulous. I found that Serta and Sealy do not make the best beds, they do the most advertising and are the most well known. Buy a new bed based on coil count. You can find it all on the net.

How much is it dipping? Do you sleep in the middle of the bed? It's normal for the bed to start keeping the indent of your body. You should flip your mattress every couple of months so it doesn't get too worn out in the same areas. Since it's a pillow top, you don't have many flipping options. You can really only rotate it so that the head becomes the feet, but it does help a little. If this doesn't make it better, take the mattress back.

When you lay on it and you feel that your waist is curving, that means its not able to keep it straight. Sometimes when u get up in the morning u may have backache. If your waist curves or u have a backache in the morning u really need to get a new one. I filed a small claims because after like three months, my back started hurting a lot more eventhough the mattress was called a back support mattress, needless to say I got my money back. If it dips 1 inch that can give you backache but that was not covered by warranty. I thought may be I am being paranoid, when I researched the net, others were having same problems with this specific mattress.
Do not get a pillowtop if u have any backache.

What I would do is flip the mattress over and try it for a while like that. If because of the pillowtop you cannot flip it over, at least turn it 180 degrees and see if it still seems to be sagging. If your still not happy with its appearance I would call LS Ayres or whomever you have the warranty with and demand some explanation or possibly a replacement. A mattress should definitely last longer than 8 months. GOOD LUCK!

Mattresses are made to set on top of box springs ,you my be voiding the warranty by putting it on solid wood .Plus the mattress will wear out very quickly the way you are doing it .
You don't turn a pillow top mattress over like other mattresses as many are saying .take it back and start all over with a good box spring under it .
Good Luck

This in Not normal, although there is some settling to expect once the mattress has been slept on. You would be best served to act on your warranty and take this bed back.

If it is a large pillow top and non flippable, then of course take it back. You know if it is sagging if you wake up in the middle of it. some mattresses claim you don't have to flip them but if it isn't on a box spring, maybe the platform frame is bending and not the mattress.

No, this is not normal. You should not be having any sag in a mattress this new. Make them give you a different one.

I got a pillowtop and it feels like it has a ditch in the middle of it. I think that is just the nature of these pillowtops. do you wake up with a backache? If you have aches and pains, then it is probably not a good mattress for you.
