you know do you like when there is a big family gathering for a few days. one time my whole family all got together at my uncle's place, there must have been more than 33 people altogether (including kids & friends)! we all spent a whole weekend together. it woz real nice you know. lots of food, drink, entertainment and we had a big barbecue one day. it woz really nice and peaceful time for all.
Have u ever had a reunion like this, and do u enjoy gatherings like this when the whole house is full of people with lots of noise & food etc? some people i know say this would be nightmare for them..( ?

Thanks Paul R, for sharin that. but that kindof makes my point more valid.. the time for getting together is during our lives, not when there is sadness like if one of our loved ones passes away.

I like the gatherings but there are lots of side effects after that.
It's a joyous occasions seeing relatives and catching up on each others.
But the terrible thing would be enduring some nasty comments from some not so good family members would are always trying to pinpoint on weaknesses and bragged their accomplishments. Especially e.g. why aren't you married, why don't you get to know this so and so doctor/lawyer... my boy became so and so head of dept blah blah.....
Fortunately I can live with that for the time being and the cleaning of the mess after meal time with some very good and understanding cousins. Otherwise I would rather be sleeping.

NO I cant stand huge family gatherings - my parents get annoyed with my aunt because she is quite overbearing and demands things her way - my mother in law and father in law will not be in the same suburb as each other let alone the same house in fact my father in law didnt come to our wedding because the mother in law would be there and then you add friends into the mix - well a very good friend of mine is an ex of my sisters and she cant stand him, a friend doesnt like another friend but doesnt want that friend to know ARGH its all too hard - this is why we have 4 Christmases etc its much easier.

i like my family gatherings but mine are just for a couple of hours lol but i enjoy them because i never get to see my family that much because i am busy with school and work so its good to take an advantage of family gatherings. i think i would go crazy after awhile i spent a whole weekend with my family. i had to leave the last gathering early because my mom, 5 and 7 year old cousins were making me mad. so yea family gatherings can go both ways.

The last time there was any kind of a gathering was at my mother's funeral. Not everyone turned up.
It was an awful experience. We shared in the mourning but apart from that all the old hatreds, sibling rivalry and past resentments bubbled just below the surface.
Next time either they will be gloating over my demise or I'll be gloating over one of theirs.

Although it can be a stress time you need to remeber that family is everything in this life. You should try and stay close to them and learn from them. Ask the older ones about family history and things they did when they were a child. I am sure that they have some really intresting things to say.

I HATE EM.
the reason being from since ny parents were married everyone used to gether at my mum's sister's hous on a friday and my mum's brother's house on a saturday. this used to happen every week. but when we got older we all started doing our own thing and going out and our visists became less frequent. nowaday we go like once every few weeks just to show our faces. my mum would love to go every week but we all have social lives.
but the reason we didn't like it was bacause once you got together people used to start bit.ching and calling other people in the family behind thir backs. people used to fight with each other. we all realised noone got on with each other. and now hardly anyone turns up which is better i suppose. then my aunty used to always moan that noone comes. and she got older over the years now she always moans about dying etc. what a fun evening!!

I love family gatherings. This is the only time my whole, small family gets along. My husbands side has one a couple times a year and we have a blast.

i think family gatherings are boring, its full of people i have hardly anything in common with and probably see once every 3 years, and all the girls are related to me so even if i wanted to i couldn't, whenever i hear about a family gathering i decide to stay at my friends for a couple of nights

we had a big family do for my parents 50th Anniversary two months ago .... it ranged from the oldest my Dad at 74 to my cousins little boy of 3 and we had a marvelous time ..... My Mums family is huge and she is the oldest at 73 and her youngest brother - my Uncle is 52 .... my eldest brother is 49 so as you can see a real diverse mixture and it was made extra special as family travelled from Thailand, US, Canada and Austrailia it was a superb day
