Double check your computer brand and model at http://www.coastmemory.com If it says that your computer uses 512MB PC2700 DDR then you are probably all set.
Open the case (with the power plug removed). You will see the existing memory on the motherboard. That memory just snaps in, when you have lined it up just right.
When you turn your computer on, RIGHT CLICK on the MY COMPUTER Icon and look to see if Windows has detected the new memory. If it hasn't, then shut everything off again and try the new strip by itself (removing the original). It that works, then put the original back in.
Sometimes, motherboards want you to add IDENTICAL memory in pairs of slots. If your motherboard has 4 slots, you might try it in the unpaired slot.
Unfortunately, not all PC2700 memories are the same. SO if your original memory is also 512MB, it might not be IDENTICAL. You may have to try different things to get them to work together.
Let's say that your original memory is only 128MB. If your new memory work fine by itself, but not WITH the 128MB, then discard the old memory. (or sell it at CoastMemory.com)

Memory is not a hard thing at all to install, but if you are completely computer illiterate with things and have no mechanical/hands on type of expierence I would suggest you ask a friend to install this for you.
Best Buy as well as all other computer stores also install(do upgrades) for a nominal fee. Some places run certain promotions when you purchase certain items from them they will install(upgrade)it for you free of charge.
Each motherboard is different, but the memory is easy to locate. I would suggest to read the literature/instructions it came with before deciding or tackling this task.
To get started you have to unplug all wires/cables to the computer, if computer was running prior to tackling this install let it cool down first. When cooled place the computer on its side and look to the back of the unit where the cables/power supply was plugged in, you will see small screws that hold the side panel to your computer in place, remove those small screws and slide that cover off, before you do ANYTHING next make sure you have grounded yourself free of static. They sell a wrist band/guard( i forget its name) that you wear and you place clamp on one end of the computer to ground it. If are not grounded you take a chance in blowing out something. Electronics are a fragile thing and it doesnt take much of anything to cause problems.
Once grounded, and you have located the old memory inside you now can reach in and take the old out. I am not sure what kind of expansion slots are on your mother board, but if there are more slots for extra memory you DO NOT have to remove the older memory, just simply place the NEW memory along side those. If there are only 2 slots for memory and the memory you just purchased is higher you will have to remove the old and replace with the 2 new sticks you just bought. You will see what looks to be like a square clamp on each end of the memory(that snaps the memory in place). The empty slots will have these clamps spread way apart, what you need to do is take the memory in your hand and insert it into the empty slot and gently press it into the slot, as you are pressing it in the square clamps will self fold up to grab the memory and secure it in place. You should hear or feel it snap into place. Its actually that simple. Now you can slide the cover back on, insert the screws, boot up and your system should recognize you have done the upgrade.
I hope this has helped you out.

Instructions:
1. Turn off computer, make sure power is completely out (unplug if necessary)
2. Open your computer/tower case
Warning: Touch any metallic part of any surface before touching any components inside your computer. This will free your body of static.
3. Locate the DIMM slots or memory banks
4. Each DIMM slot should have 2 retaining clips, one on each end, and they're usually white, pull both clips down.
5. Put the memory in one of the slot in a proper position, use the gaps on the DIMM slot and the gaps on the memory as a guide to install the memory in the proper way.
6. If the memory is installed correctly, the clips should snap automatically. If you don't hear this, use your fingers to secure the memory by tightening the clips.
Hope this helps.
To the first person that answered (Alex)... LMAO... I hope you didn't try that on your computer... WOW.

wow nice answers uve gotten.... first unplug the whole computer from any power source, then u open the casing to the puter, and look on the green board which is the mother board... youll see some really thin long slots, they are about 5 inches long or so, ull see other memory chips in there too usually theres 2-4 slots there, ure going to want to make sure that, if you already have both slots full, thats fine pull the one furtherest away from the processor (lil square box looking thing) out first and replace with new mem... then put it all back together and turn it on PC should recognise it, in some cases the BIOS needs to be changed if the computer doesnt recongise the full amount of memory there if that happens u can email me or IM me on yahoo and ill be glad to help you fix that....

Ok, that answer to insert it into the hard drive is stupid and you should ignore it.
First, if you've never done this stuff before, get a professional or a friend who is tech savy to do it for you. You can do damage to the computer by tinkering under the hood.
That being said...
Open the case, find the old memory and either take one out (if the slots are full) or install the new one next to the old one.
Replace the case and turn the computer on.

Turn off your computer. Open your CPU. Look inside on the mother board. You'll see slots with one or more of the same memory cards in them. If there's an empty slot, just slide it in, and use the end clamps to hold it in place. If there are no empty slots, then pull one of the other ones out, and replace it with the new one. Keep in mind, that if you replace one, you'll be losing the amount of memory that card has on it...probably 256 MB of memory. Your new 512 MB card will give you a net profit of 256 MB of ram. That would be unfortunate, but is many times the case.
Anyway, once you plug it in, put the case back on, and restart your machine. That's it! No software installation is required at all!

Open up your case. Locate your memory banks (should be easy to find as you will already have one stick of memory in one of the slots). Pull down the too retaining clips at either side of the memory slots. Place the memory in the slot in the correct direction (the memory has a whole in part of it and this will match the whole in the slot) and push down hard. This will force the clips closed. You may need to just push the clips upwards a little to ensure that memory is secure.
That's it.

Make sure the computer is off first and preferrably unplugged. Open your PC case and look for the RAM slots. On either end of each slot is a lever...you need to push each lever away from the slot (just until they stop, not too hard) and then just slide the RAM stick in. Push down on the stick on either side until the levers clip onto the chip.

As you see by looking at the picture there is a notch that is placed off center of the pins. Just line the notch up with the tab in the slot, and snap it into place. You will have to push the RAM into the slot, and they are a little hard. Once both end tabs lock in, you are set to go.

You need to install it on the motherboard slot. Just open the computer box and you will easily see the slots made for it. Just fit the DDR in any one slot.
Please see below picture on how to install it.
