Democracy is a nice idea.
But each country is different and there are a lot of factors to consider before implementing any new system of government.

Regrettably, the Americans trying to inject a dose of democracy in Iraq are setting themselves up for failure.
They are so very focused on the ideology that they've totally ignored the realities of everyday Iraqi life.

Let’s start with the employment rate in that country.
The fact is nearly half the population is jobless.

Then there is the infrastructure.
Roads, bridges, electric, water, sewer, etc...are all in disarray and are prone to terrorist bombings.

Foreign investments would be helpful, but who wants to end up blown to bits by a terrorist?
Besides, just try to land a jet at the Baghdad airport and take a car trip into town leaves you open as a target for some bomb-welding wacko.

The Bush Administration has sent people who are more concerned about the idea of a good government.
They are not addressing the bread-and-butter issues.

Hey, wait a minute!
The Bush Administration isn't even addressing bread-and-butter issues here in America!
But I digress.

The point is, NO ONE can change a people (a culture) that has operated the way Iraq had for decades, and expect immediate results.
This is something that will take generations.
And ONLY if the people are willing.
From the looks of things, it doesn't appear that too many are accepting the change.
