I have a 199 Ford Windstar whose computer started acting up a week ago. A bunch of items on the Van stopped working including the AC. The blower still works fine , but the compressor doesn't turn on. Is it possible to directly run a seperate 12v source to the compressor to have it turn on. I simply refuse to get a new computer, since I've only owned this car for 4 months and already spend $3500 on repairs. Will it work if its given power directly from any 12v source.

The reason AC is not working is usually because Ford has a "Fail Safe Mode" in the ECM. It shuts AC compressor down and usually
( if V8 ) will cut the engine power in half (runs on 4 cylinders). Get a
OBD II Code Reader to check the status of your vehicles ECM.
I would not recommend Bypassing the Computer.

No. You will be bypassing controls as well. The A/C would run continuously.
