People get married because religion has messed up our minds and we feel that the only way a man and a woman can start a family is by marriage. Society has also contributed to this belief.
Shacking up is not acceptable in their eyes. Frankly marriage was not created by God so i don't give a damn what they think. And the bible has too many damn versions for me to accept it all without question.

I think it's about promising someone that they will never be alone again, that you will never give up or desert them. There are times when one person isn't strong enough to deal with all that life throws at you, and you need to share someone else's strength to get through. Marriage is many things, but it should also be a guarantee that you will have that someone there beside you to face whatever comes.

because they love each other mostly but because they want to show the world (however small their world might be) that they are together under the eyes of God. Besides most people just do it beacuse its what everyone else does after going out for awhile and fallin in love
