This is opinion that has been heard, and said different times and different way. If Albert Einstein had to pass some standardized test given today he might get labeled retarded. Believe he had difficulty with some subjects matter, but he was not retarded. Raise this point to demonstrate how weak it is to call anyone retarded. Ones overall mental ability does effect how much effort it takes to learn the basics. It could be done but it would take so much effort the constant effort would end up hurting that person. To be good scientist you need ability to think abstractly, so some level of mental ability is needed. Science is very big field, and with very good computer skills someone mildly retarded might be able to become scientist on some level, but there is a lot more stuff they would find easier to do, and give them happier life.

WOW! I am totallyblown away with how insensitive you are. That has to be the worse possible way to ask that question. I'll give you an answer when you stop and ask it in a more understanding, human and polite manner.

ANd a savant is not incapable of learning. Savants do not instictively know answers to complex equations or how to play Motzart at birth. Rather, they have a totally different way of learning that science and education simply haven't figured out yet. It seems to be most closely connected to what most people call a photographic memory, but these children and adults are able to apply what they have seen or heard in ways that most of us would find difficult without years of practice or study. Another idea in the study of this area is that people with savant like abilities are able to see alternate ways to apply and think about given data...thinking outside the box so to speak..and that is part of how their gifts work. This in no way "undermines" any belief or data on intelligence. It merely forces us to look at it in a new way and apply a broader definition of learning.

Only if the particular person is an "Idiot Savant". Idiot savants are a group of humans that are incapable of learning, writing or reading, yet they have unlimited access to specific, accurate knowledge in the fields of mathematics, music, and other precise areas. Now the irony of an idiot-savant is that this group of individuals does not acquire knowledge by learning as the average human does. They mysteriously 'know' explicit, exact, correct information. One may wonder: "How do idiots savants know certain information or possess certain skills?" By whatever means they obtain this information, they undermine current definitions about intelligence.

What is it about a scientist you would like to be? What skills do you have? Are you interested in working in a lab and wearing a white coat? Do you like animals? There are important jobs working with scientists you could do. Do you have a vocational rehab. counselor? That is the person who could help you find work. Good luck! (ignore those people who insult you-they're idiots!LOL)

Why do so many people say "retard" and "idiot" savant? Why don't you show some compassion?
