The western powers and China will not indefinitely be able to hold the rest of the world back. At some point in the future we are going to have to start developing diplomatic ties with other countries rather than pulling the super power trump card. This is becoming a nuclear world and we will not be able to declare 'club closed to new member' much longer.

The encouraging part of this news is that Egypt is much further behind Iran in developing these technologies.
Secondly, Egypt has managed to maintain a peaceful relationship with Israel for decades now, and despite the actions of an insane minority, and there is no reason to believe that won't remain so in the future.
Eventually, most countries will have to turn to nuclear energy as oil prices continue to increase, but the temperament of the country is all important in determining its relative threat to peace.
Egypt is similar to Pakistan in that they are not perceived as being interested in expanding their spheres of influence militarily.
Iran is mostly known as an aggressive power trying recapture the glory of the Persian Empire. Not in centuries has Egypt attempted to control the region, in fact, they have been conquered by aggressive Arab neighbours far more often.

Why can they have nuclear development program. Sorry i forgot America said they cant. Egypt is not rich in oil so then maybe they will be alowed neclear power and its seems that America is only after oil anyway.

Wow- just watch them all scramble for their first taste of nuclear power.... which is like the gateway drug to nuclear weapons. Once you start down that path, others looking on will say "Hey, we want that too!"

I am sorry to say, we need to drop some nukes on these suicide bombers. We did that in Japan, and they quickly abandoned the suicide bomber mentality.
