Make it a weekend trip...but plan on spending about four hours in the MBA. I am a MBA member and have a place in Monterey; so I have gone back to the MBA dozens of times over the years. But each time, I've spent but four or so hours there.
I keep going back to see the new exhibits they frequently install. Right now, for example, they are showing a captured White Shark. That is rare because White Sharks do not survive long in captivity. Soon the MBA will have to release it back into the Bay.
I recommend the weekend stay because there are a heck of a lot more things in Monterey to do and see than the MBA. The whale watching boat rides are great. You can catch them at Fisherman's Wharf, which is itself worthwhile seeing.
The Movies Made in Monterey guided tour is fantastic. Close to 200 movies have been made in and around Monterey. The tour, which takes a bus, also drives along Seventeen Mile Drive, where all the very rich and mansions are located. You can also spend some time at the Pebble Beach Club House (their chili is great).
Monterey has a great selection of restaurants. Abalonetti's on Fisherman's Wharf is great for seafood...they have a bouillabaisse to die for. If steak's your thing, the Whaling Station, with its prime beef, is the place to go. Fresh Cream is great for a romantic meal overlooking the Bay and the Sea Otters that cavort in it.

doing the aquarium in one day isn't the issue, it's the line outside to get in. Now that it's off season, it won't be so bad, even on the weekends, but during the summer or during any of the local festivals, the line outside can be easily be hours long.
But consider spending more than one day here anyway. LOTS of stuff to do in the area, most within walking distance of the Row and Fisherman's Wharf. Including Winetasting....

You can see the Aquarium in one visit, but there is so much more to see and do in Monterey
It is a beautiful area and you should at least take the 17-mile drive and have brunch at Spanish Bay
Bring a camera (and a jacket) and take a stroll along the Ocean

One day is enough. I love the drive from San Jose to Monterey, very scenic.

Yes one day is enough, you should go on a scuba or boat ride the second day. There are many boat rides to see wales off the Pier.

Totally - one day is totally enough. For me a 1/2 day was enough. I guess it depends on how much you like to watch fish! However, Monterry itself is a really really nice place to visit. You could day-trip to Carmel for example. I think you could easily occupy yourself for 2 days.
