intentions of a growing power does not mean invasion. if i read about something that makes sence , i have the right to either advocate or disapprove. BUT, if a nation is taken over by another nation , and gun fire is the way to desuade me then i will not accpet it .

According to social contract theory, the main reason why people submitted to governments originally was for protection from invaders and other threats. Fear increases the natural human impulse to seek protection.
The Republican strategy has two forks - 1. increase fear, 2. paint themselves as macho protectors. You can hear this fear mongering even in the Presidents' recent speeches. We are in a world wide war against evil Islamic Fascists says Bush.
At the same time that they have nurtured our fears, they have created the image that only they can save America from the gathering terrorist threat. They have used their extensive propaganda apparatus to convince a large enough portion of the public that Democrats are unpatriotic appeasers. Once they've established this relationship in the public mind, each feeds the other. More fear, more votes for Republicans. More Republicans in control = more incompetence, and more reason to fear. The trick for the Democrats is getting people to realize that they are more insecure and have more fear on account of Republican policies and incompetence.

If you are referring to Iran the reason could be his own words...
In October he said that Israel "must be wiped off the map" and in December called the Holocaust a "myth."
Ahmadinejad once again questioned whether the killing of 6 million Jews during World War II really happened, calling it a story "many countries believe."
Iranian Daily Calls For World Without Zionism, 'Satanic' US Administration "World without Zionism and the great Satan" Keyhan International ..
By the way the "great satan" is what he calls the US.. SO YES..... the Iranian government is "out to diminish our nation."

About iran: the US & israel are going in a plan to conqure the middle east, first they put their forces in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Afghanistan.. etc. then when wanted to conqure any country it starts by conquring this country economically, so it blocks any economic transactions with it through two things:
1. they force poor countries (which is in economical troubles) to stop trading with it or else they will lose their status among US, and maybe lose the opportunity of entering the US market.
2. through the UN which i think now it has no identity, and i think Muslim Countries should really withdraw its self from it, because they gain nothing, and the 7 countries with the veto can control everything... and the US specially uses the veto to block any of our countrie's rights... and you have seen in lebanon, and before.
so the US started by conquring iraq, and then they shifted on Syria and lebanon, notice: israel's aim is take from River Nile in Egypt to River Furat in Iraq, and they have attacked Sinai (in 1973) because of this reason.
so what's next in the US agenda? Syria and Iran, while Sudi Arabia and Egypt are left for the end... so Syria is a not that strong, and already the US is using its forces (with S), on the other hand there is Iran which is building nuclear energy generators, probably to build nuclear weapons.... but let me ask: is what is good for israel forbidden on us as Arabs? or we only have the right to yell and say No (if we have!)? israel has Dimona... why we don't have to defend ourselves from the united states? i think the US is taking such actions to kill anything that might threaten the US and Israel at the same time, and to have their free moves into the middle east.
Hope Allah will unite Muslims to block them.

Actually we never really think about it until our media starts to scare us of what would happen to us.
It is a simple games used by politicians and certain political groups to gain support for their military actions to gain dominance over other nations.
A super power is in constant need of a scary enemy to continue being a super power, other wise what's the point of spending the amount of money our government is spending on weapons and WMDs.

My goodness!! Such intellectual responses you are getting!!
I don't have a problem with a "power that is growing".
My concern is with the CLEAR intentions that "power" may have.
Westhill... you are misrepresenting the Social Contract Theory.
What you are trying to pass off as the Social Contract Theory is actually your theory.
Social Contract Theory, nearly as old as philosophy itself, is the view that persons' moral and/or political obligations are dependent upon a contract or agreement between them to form society. In all reality the Social Contract Theory is flawed. Recently, philosophers from different perspectives have criticized Social Contract Theory. In particular, feminists and race-conscious philosophers have argued that social contract theory is at least an incomplete picture of our moral and political lives, and may in fact camouflage some of the ways in which the contract is itself parasitical upon the subjugations of classes of persons.

I do not have this fear.
It is human nature, since we are the ultimate parasite, to try and dominate.
