The two that come to my mind are Paul Cezanne and Edouard Manet. Try going to the National Gallery of Art web site. Search those two artists and look at their work, especially Still Life with Melon and Peaches by Manet and Still Life Aubergines by Cezanne. Look at their use of space and the placement of the items within the painting. I hope this will help you, and good luck.

Unfortunately I do not exactly understand what you are looking for! Perhaps you could give us the brief you were given with the assignment, you may get more results (although the first one seems to make sense, I am not sure if it is what your assignment is looking for without moreinformation!)
