My 5 month old is in daycare from 7 to 2pm. He sleeps 2 half hour naps when he is there. Then, he won't take a nap for us until 5pm, and only sleeps 45 minutes. At night, he sleeps from 8/8:30 to 6:00am. It seems like he should be getting more sleep. Does this sound normal/abnormal to other mothers? He sleeps all night except for one feeding which he pretty much sleeps through anyway. Does this sound like enough? And yes, we do have a very established bedtime routine.

That doesn't sound too bad -- I have a 5 month old and he takes about an hour nap mid-morning and about 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon -- the kicker is that he'll usually sleep about 12 hours at night....except for waking once or twice to be fed for 5-10 minutes. Just remember every baby is different and as long as he's not acting exceptionally cranky or tired -- then he's probably just fine!!!

Hi - Luv My Boy

I personally think at 5 months old your baby should be taking a much longer nap in the afternoon ! Two 1/2 hour naps for that age is just too little. He should go down shortly after lunch (i.e. 12:30 ) and sleep at least 2 - 2.5 hours. Check with your provider if they are waking him up after 1/2 hr. or is he waking on his own. Then have them make the adjustment gradually. You should be in total control of all things your child does there as well as at home so don't be intimidated if they try to tell you that schedule won't work - make it work. Any day care environment that is not privately home based has regulated schedules that are followed by age group. If your boy is in a private home based daycare - your adjustment to his sleep habits should be addressed with out issue. My kids all took afternoon naps until they were 3 - 4 years old and with each year the length of the nap decreased. What you are doing at home is perfect and if you can change his sleep pattern when your working his 45 min - late afternoon naps should disappear. Good luck with your task and good for you for being so involved with all aspects of your baby's well being ! !

He is getting enough. As your son gets older he is going to be taking less naps. He sleeps for 10 hours during the night and for about two hours of the day that is half the day he is sleeping. That sounds like more than enough. He most likely is taking less naps during the day because he is sleeping 10-11 hours at night

some years in the past they recommended mothers and fathers to place toddlers to sleep on their fronts, now its all replaced! i in my view have enable my toddlers sleep on their fronts good from newborn as neither of my toddlers have been happy slumbering on their backs yet I did get a respiration video exhibit for them! even a newborn infant has the means to tutor the pinnacle to the facet and interior weeks can raise up their heads. My toddlers are actually 6,4,2 and one on the way and that they nevertheless all sleep on their tummies! cant talk for the unborn however the different 3 do and Ive on no account had any issues. i stumbled on while they slept on their backs they may well be ill and choke often times, while they sleep on their fronts that's no concern in any respect, with the aid of permitting them to sleep on their fronts although i might deffinately propose the slumbering on the backside of the cot with a blanket that can't suffocate them as in tucked below the matress and can't come above the pinnacle. At 5 months theres no concern there in any respect the subject is greater touching directly to newborns and divided evaluations

As long as he is not getting overly cranky he is most likely getting enough sleep. I think my son at this age was down to a couple of naps a day.

my son is two. he hasn't slept all the time like most kids do since he was born. as long as your child is healthy i wouldn't worry. one thing you could try is not trying to get him to take a nap after daycare. play with him, give him love ,and just wear him out until bedtime. a child will go to sleep when they get ready just like an adult.

Don't give them sleeping pills ever. Just play with them, entertain themn with useful activities like chanting nursery songs and etc. This aids them in their literacy and differentiation skills, to help them in their memory.
