From the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF):
At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The JREF does not involve itself in the testing procedure, other than helping to design the protocol and approving the conditions under which a test will take place. All tests are designed with the participation and approval of the applicant. In most cases, the applicant will be asked to perform a relatively simple preliminary test of the claim, which if successful, will be followed by the formal test. Preliminary tests are usually conducted by associates of the JREF at the site where the applicant lives. Upon success in the preliminary testing process, the "applicant" becomes a "claimant."
On September 3, 2001, Sylvia Browne accepted the specific protocol for a definitive test for the JREF million-dollar challenge, on Larry King Live. That was over FIVE years ago on national television. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJFWSTD8vpQ
Here is another link from 9-7-01 that is interesting about this LIAR of a woman. http://www.randi.org/jr/090701.html
Finally a link to FOX news from 1-5-06 where she completely wrong about the mining tragedy. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,180681,00.html
"Believing" people like these can be dangerous. Be a critical thinker.

I believe there are valid psychics and like all fields of work, there are some that are frauds. I believe that Sylvia Browne is valid, and I'll tell you why.
1) I was in her audience once and was able to ask a question. She was right on the money, and I had not been approached before the lecture.
2) She is very spiritual, and her talent is not evil, it is God given and she gives all the credit to God.
3) The man that accosted her on Larry King Live, that wanted her to submit to reliability tests, she told him to have his heart looked at. He said his heart was fine and he blew her off. Seems awfully funny that he had a heart attack, doesn't it?

Yes, I believe in psychics, but I also believe in phony psychics that just want your money. Silvia Browne is a real psychic I think. However, she's got a lot of built up jealousy because of the way she looks. She also channels a lot of negative energy so she seems unlikable.

Since the universe is vast and my capacity for understanding it is very limited, I would never presume to know with certainty that there aren't people out there that might be more in tune or more perceptive at that level. I am still very skeptical of those that claim to be psychic for profit, just like I would be of any one asking for my credit card number and expiration date. I am more inclined to believe psychics who volunteer their services to the police department to solve crimes or find missing persons because there is less in it for them to be deceitful.
As an aside, James Van Prague creeps me out.
