It looks like a tiny taratula, the front legs are bigger and have white bands. A distinct white spot is on the back of its hind end. There are two irredescent blue spots on the back of its head. It could have fit on a nickel, except when it was crawling. I live in southern California. What type of spider of this?

Black widows typically have a red hour glass shape on their backs. What you found is probably a variety of house spider, which isn't poisoneous. I'd still avoid handling it with bare skin though because 'probably' isn't a sure thing.

We have them here in Florida too. We just called them house spiders. They are cool guys. They can jump very far. They wont hurt you. We have had them in every house we have ever lived in.
