is there any way i can take a hardrive out of a broken laptop and connect it directly to a desktop so that i can extract the data

Get a 2.5 inch HDD casing and install the HD. then access thru USB. but got the set the jumper to slave...

Of course, your directory must not be encrpyted, otherwise you got to send them to PC repair shop...

To add: yes you'll have to extract the HD from your laptop... the instruction should be available in the user manual provided with your laptop...

Yes you need a power and data lead to do this and they are normally found on ebay for a tenner.

there is , you need to goto your local computer shop and buy a 2.5inch to 3.5inch hdd converter
