Take only what you need and mementos of course. The rest is just replaceable stuff. You can sell stuff and make money for more.

I was moved by my company and chose a major national vanline so as to avoid the scams and ripoffs of the smaller moving companies. I had my stuff picked up a week earlier than they recommended to make sure it would be there when I was. My stuff was 10 days late getting there. Since they require a cashier's check to even unload your stuff off of the truck, I still had to pay them the full amount. I called and filed a claim later and they sent me a 50 dollar check. I thought that was a slap in the face considering I spent 6k to have my things professionally moved. If I were you, I would rent a U-haul and do it yourself. It will be cheaper and at least you know your things will arrive on time. You were in the service anyways... don't be a girl! LOL If you don't want to load, unload your truck, hire you some Mexicans to do it. Just rent a truck and drive it yourself... you'll be happy you did.

I agree with Mike, the cheapest way would be to rent a u-haul truck and just do it your self.
