I think the majority of customer service in any company is shoddy. We're all treated as if we are 10 year old by immature morons who usually can't think of a decent excuse when it is written down, right there, in front of them........... I'm going with the majority and vote NTL

Clydesdale Bank.. they are instantly on the phone if they want money...
I was based in Germany for a while and ended up in hospital in London... I didn't have my card with me, so had to take a taxi to Picadilly from Woolwich to get to the branch and withdraw my £200 limit every few weeks... the balance was about £4000....
.. now, when I'd been the Falkland Islands the previous year we could only be paid by cheque - a separate account in those days (1989)... the balance of that was about £5.. as I never used it.
..I finally left hospital and the army a year later and became a student, funding my own way through university..
... 6 months into my course, I was fairly skint.. I went to the local branch and found my cheque account was overdrawn by £1200!!!!
They had taken all the money in london from the account with £5 balance .. even though there was no overdraft facility on it!!!
When I complained, they said it was my fault for not keeping them up to date with my address details... now this had been at a time when we moved on every 6 weeks or so to another country or region... they would not move on the debt or write any of it off... I had to work full time hours for 6 months to pay it off!!
3 years later the froze my account for non-payment of a non-existent £40 debt.. even though they admitted it had been a clerical error, it took 6 weeks to unfreeze my account.. so I was living on loans from my friends for that time.
BT.... I agree! The customer service in India is appalling. When the first companies outsourced call centres to India, they were highly skilled, trained and motivated... but these staff soon moved on and now the staff are people with a passing knowledge of English, using "British alter-egos"... which you know are nothing more that a lie. It sets the wrong tone right at the beginning of the conversation.

I think on the whole Customer Service here in the u.k is really non existent and Major Companies no longer care about their customers.
Some of the worst Companies I think are BT,Tesco and Telewest and, with Sky coming close.
This is really a problem and to be honest I think things are getting worse.

2 companies. 1. Basement Technologies in Massachusetts. They installed a drain system in my house. They made a mistake, and it caused a flood. I tried over a period of a month to speak with the owner, and I always "just missed him". Their idea is very good, the service is rotten. 2. VTECH. They make telephones. They fall apart. Their warranties, are vague, and contradictory. They will not answer letters. They make other products, which I would not advise anyone to buy, based on how I was treated.

Pepboys--the absolute worst!
I made an appointment for my car, drove 45 minutes to get there, when I brought it in they say it's a 2 to 3 hour wait (what's the purpose of the appointment then?).
They did this to me two times, so I called customer service to complain and the woman on the other line wasn't even listening to me. I think she was filing her nails or playing on the internet as I was talking. So I wrote a letter on two separate occasions to complain about her as well as the store. Heard NOTHING!! They suck!

Boots, i left my loyalty card in the machine instore and found out ten minutes later. Got on the phone to cancel the card because i had £14,- of points on it. They said they would cancel it.
They sent me a new card with no points on it at all after they said they would honour the points since the lost card had been reported immediately. I found out after i rang them that the next day it was used in the next town and ended up telling one of their automaton managers to stuff the new card they where the sun don't shine. He said the £14,- had been spent and refused to look into the fact that i had reported it lost well before it was used. I asked him about phome recordings for training purposes, as they call it and he said he couldn't help. I don't use Boots no more now :-)
Oh, and someone mentioned BT. Their internet support is in India and manned by people with the most basic grasp of English, including the ones on 'managerial' level. They kept reading their cue cards, it was easier to switch internet providers in the end. And then they got me so wind up after that i switched my phone too :-)

I've been having a lot of problems with BT and there technical support gives the worst service. They treat you like an idiot and just seem to repeat them selves over and over again. Not helping in any way shape or form. And I'm not racist but none of them speak English so makes it almost impossible to explain to them the problem and then receive help for it.

I used to work for OneTel in Alperton - it seemed to me that the rude and insulting people who worked there got on better with the management! And whenever someone actually got a sale through good custmer service, it was taken from them and passed on to someone else who didn't know what was going on!
Worst company ever? You decide.

I would defo like Yahoo to have read of my answer... Yahoo have no time to deal with certain matters of customer service... ie violations... (if it qualifies as a custom base on here!)
Then Sky... Do not buy Sky tv... goto http://www.wwitv.com
or download pptv
http://www.ppstream.com/bin/ppstreamsetup.exe
Ppstream has free hbo and movies etc... some chinese programming... channels are in code in the left box!
