This is a tough question I think, because if answered fully we could go on reasoning forever!
I would say the basis of such hatefulness stems from the stressful place the world is today. People are working longer and harder than ever, are generally uptight, and have little time to really consider other people. We are all guilty of getting caught up in our daily thang, ya know?!
The level of selfishness in people these days is intensified by the advances in communication. The constant use of mobile phones, text and email, means you can talk to exactly who you want right away, anywhere in the world. This means nobody has to bother with their local community or family etc. and this lack of togetherness only makes room for nastiness.
There are also so many different groups of people with different cultural, political and religious views, and the media is so powerful now that these opinions can be broadcast far and wide, not to mention distorted and biased. Meaning that eventually everyone will disagree with, dislike and even hate another person or community. Rather sad really.

no matter how many value education classes we attend, how many stories moralising love and kindness we read, how many lessons we learn through life's challenges...there will always be a certain few who just won't learn.
and they are the nasty, hateful people...don't care about them...it's a whole nasty world actually...but smile coz goodness still exists and it's something that can't die out..

everyone has agenda, and think it's their right to be hateful- for past hates incurred on them
