I am a web designer and I've FINALLY gotten a chance to design my own site and I was wondering which is the best domain to use. I don't mind paying but do they all require that you have their advertisement on your site? Thanks for any advise!

What programming language are you using and with what database? I develop all my freelance sites from hostmysite.com and frontserve.com
My big-name clients are on hostmysite.com cause they have 24/7 tech support via email/phone/IM and are VERRRRRYY good.

I would say that Yahoo! domain names will be just fine it is the best. The best domain is .com (because it is popular) but you can use many others. You can give a try at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/ for your domain and here http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/for your host.
