Last night I lost my mucus plug which was tinged with blood and I was having a few contractions, they say I am dialeted 2-3cm. They sent me home because I was not contracting enough..Can you loose your mucus plug but not go into labor for a while or does it usually indicate its right around the corner?

You can loose your mucas plug and not go into labor for weeks everyone is different. My friend and I were pregnany together we were about three months apart she lost her mucas plug and experienced braxton hicks the whole time she went into labor two weeks later when her water broke at the mall, I never experienced a braxton hick throughout my whole pregnancy and loss my mucas plug 24 hours before I had my baby and my water never broke the doctors had to break it to induce my labor so just sit tight it shouldn't be much longer for you just do alot of walking it will help you for your delivery get that baby down. Good luck!

Once the plug is gone andconsidering you are 2-3 centimeters you should be going into labor soon. Walk around and let gravity work to help baby come down and continue to dialate you. It should be soon best of luck.

I think it's called "Mucous bloody show" for who's nearly go on labor. It's the discharge result from dilating lower uterine segment preparing for normal delivery. There're many factors compose to be the suiable time for delivery.
1. your uterine contraction ; If you'd got contraction Interval 2-3 mins Duration 45-60 mins , It's the good sign
2. your cervix ; who is ready for delivery it's must 10 cms. and good effacement. In this case,I think you're in the latent phase of labor ( mean the early phase before delivery)
3. your fetus ; If he/she is large it's difficult to get smooth delivery

I think maybe 8-12 hr you can sing Happy Birthday to your son :)
Congratulation!!

I have read and heard in lots of places, that losing your mucous plug means you are ready to go ... but, in reality, with my first, I never saw anything I would call a mucous plug, and with my second, I "lost" it twice before going into labor.

The fact that you are having contractions and are dialated 2-3 cm is a great sign though! walk, walk, walk ...

Best of Luck!

you can lose your plug and not go into labour immediately. however labour is not far away. the loss of the plug plus contractions or dilatation of up to 4cm indicates labour has begun.
