This is what I found about the 1941 version of the film...
Two "Maltese Falcons" were used for the film because Humphrey Bogart dropped the original during shooting. The original falcon is on display in the movie museum at Warner Bros. studios; its tail feathers are visibly dented from Bogey's flub sixty years ago.

I have probably mis-read the question, but I think you will find this interesting anyways.
Find the movie "The Black Bird," which is the spoof-sequel to "The Maltese Falcon." It has several of the supporting actors from the original making cameo appearances, including the blonde woman who was Bogart's secretary who actually plays Sam Spade Jr's secretary, and she is old and MEAN. She constantly ridicules Sam Spade Jr because he never gets anything right.
Anyways, it turns out that the measurements of the 'cubit' were incorrect and the statue that was left at Sam Spade's office at the end of Maltese Falcon, which Sam Spade Jr is using in Black Bird as a door stop, is in fact the real Falcon. After several chase scenes, after which it is accidentally buried at sea by the Samoans because they mistake it in the dark for the dead midget Nazi mastermind, Sam Spade Jr dives down to the bottom of the harbor to find it, but in the end it is swallowed by a shark who swims away.

... there was just the fake "Maltese Falcon",
the real one was never brought to the coast.
May be it was burnt in that terrible ship-accident.
... the faked falcon was — in the end — brought
to the police station, where it belongs.
