'R' - Read only, meaning you can copy your files, music or whatever only once. After that, it can be used over and over but you cannot copy anymore to it.
RW - This is Read/Write. With such disks, you can copy once, copy many times, delete and rewrite, just like your hard drive. (capacity is smaller though....about 750 or 800 Mb). Just a bit more money than R types. I always use RWs.
