Avoiding the never ending debates over determinism and existentialism and the randomness or created nature of the universe, you actually do have some real life control over the seemingly random occurrences that you experience.
For instance, if you choose to hang out with drug dealers, thieves, prostitutes, rapists, and pedophiles, bad things will most often happen. If you choose to hang out with the moral and successful people and do the right things, good things are more likely to happen. If you choose drug and alcohol abuse over abstinence, bad things are more likely to happen.
So, while you do not have control over those around you, you can better your chances and no, life is not totally random.

Not necessarily random, they may seem completely random at the time but they all add up to the big picture in the end.

That depends...do you simply go through life doing random things? If you do things in an orderly fashion, your life will be orderly. It's called Free Will...it's one of the many gifts that God bestowed upon us.

This is a good question! I think in some ways destiny determines what happen to our life, but more importantly, as many say, your personality changes your destiny!

Lacking the ability to see the "overall BIG picture" ( we are mere mortals),LIFE ,ITSELF, TO US ON THE INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEING LEVEL, MAY SEEM AT TIMES ( like MOST, OR ALL OF THE TIME) AS SUCH--A SERIES OF RANDOM OCCURRENCES----WE ARE NOT GOD!!! ---I , myself, personally view life as a three demensional CHESS GAME---four demensional if you insert time element factor into OUR INDIVIDUAL LIFE EQUATION!!!

Great question!Sometimes I do believe that.Other times I believe that WE are the ones that steer our lives in the direction that we want to go.I mean,I like to think that WE ourselves make the choices in our everyday lives that eventually lead us to where we are today..I like to think that I AM the captain of my boat!

I'm nt sure. I'll be able to answer this better when I'm 80 and die. Then I'll be able to reflect on it all :-)
I can't give an answer like that when I'm only 19- the future holds my answers.

I subscribed to the notion that we are all here on earth for a reason. Mine is to pay my ex-wife alimony.
