It's Conference USA. Houston has been in it since 1996 when the Southwest Conference broke up due to Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor being snatched up by the Big 8 to form the Big XII. Rice and Southern Methodist (who had also been SWC members) jumped to the WAC in 1996, but joined CUSA in 2005 in the great shuffle which started when Miami, VPI, and BC left the Big East to join the ACC (the Big East then took Louisville, Cincinnati, and South Florida from CUSA, which then took teams from the WAC and the MAC). Texas-El Paso had been in the WAC since 1968 (entered with Colorado State) but jumped to CUSA with Rice, SMU, and Tulsa in 2005.
