Yes, you have to work to get an unemployment check, and most states require you work at that job for 6 months to a year.

Yes. In most states in the US you have to work a minimum amount of time to qualify. In PA, it is six months. A worker is elligible if he loses his job through not fault of his own. If he quits or gets fired for cause, he is not elligible.
There may be a maximum amount of time allowed, after termination of employment, to apply. It may be as little as thirty days after the end of employment.

You must have worked for at least one year in order to apply for Unemployment. That is how the system works here in Canada.

yes you need to have worked a certain amount of hours/weeks before you can apply and when you apply you need your ROE(record of employment) and it cannot say that you were fired/dismissed otherwise you cant apply for EI. if you were laid off due to lack of work then yes you can or if you were hurt at work then no you cannot apply for EI because you need to be ready willing and able to work. If this doesn't help you maybe you could try their website http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca
and if this doesn't help you any then you need to go to your local office and they can help you there
Good Luck

Unemployement goes back to like a year before, what you worked. And jobs are laying people off like crasy right now. Nothing to be embarrased about, hell GM Motors is even laying off in Ohio, GE electric is too.

In the US, yes. And you have to have been forced to leave your job. How long you had to have been working and how long you're entitled to unemployment and how much you get depends on which state you live in.

In most states you must have had a job for at least 1yr. You must also prove you were fired or let go. Thats it! Money will be determined by how much you were getting paid!

Yes you have to have had at least one job and got fired...you won't get it if you quit or had a doctor say you can't work.
