Spend 1st days to mingle with other staffs in the office or whatever place you are working at. Try to get some information and experiences working with each other. Yes, ask them what they think about your supervisor, the do's and don'ts. At the same time, observe quietly and see if what they tell you match what you see.

Don't be too open to everyone, be friendly, but not too open. Open up when you feel comfortable later on.

Probably take 3 days to a week to get a good feel if you like the environment - the people and the surroundings.

Give yourself hope, by being positive about doing the job well...that 's the reason why you were hired!

Get your hope up. If this is not the job for you, you will know it...and move on.

It take me about 2 weeks to figure out the company and the boss. When you become someones assistant it takes a little longer because you have to know what exactly they expect from you. Eventually you will know what they want before they even ask it of you.

It depends. Some of us can get into the good books within one week while the rest of us may takes few weeks. So there is no definite to this question. Basically, I get into my boss good books after few months in the company as I dun really like to entertain my boss

"Getting the hang of a new job" will take about 1 week if you are being throw into the deep end since day 1. If not, 2 weeks should suffice.

If you are referring to "knowing the job inside out", it will be 6 to 12 months depend on how big your portfolio is....

Three elements to answer the question comprehensively
First how good are you.
Second, the nature of the job
Finally the boss. Bosses and people for that matter are not as stupid as you think. Manipulative behaviour does not sit well with most. Just be yourself and be good at what you are doing. It is not unknown that employees do end up marrying the boss e.g. Melinda and Bill Gates.
