In this film, there is a scene where the main character is speeding down a highway in Tokyo, Japan and he passes a cop.. now what I want to know: Is it true that the police wont bother trying to catch ye if ye can do better than 120 KPH?

120 kph is not fast, 120 mph maybe.
It largely depends on which country, most western countries will pursue the car, the only time they will stop is if you become so dangerous (ie fast) that they are in danger following.
